As people's awareness of environmental protection continues to increase and strict emission regulations continue to be introduced, energy-saving and environmentally friendly pure electric aerial work platforms have gradually been recognized and favored by domestic and foreign markets. The battery is the power source and key electrical component of the electric aerial work platform. It is related to the performance and operational safety of the equipment. For this reason, it is crucial to perform daily maintenance of the battery. The traction batteries used in electric aerial work platforms are generally ordinary lead-acid batteries. Its main advantages are stable voltage and high cost performance. In daily use and maintenance, doing the following aspects well can effectively extend the service life of the battery.

1. Routine inspections cannot be ignored

The top of the battery and the terminal connection should be kept dry, clean, dust-free, and corrosion-free to avoid leakage or short circuit failure. If the surface of the battery is dirty, use a damp cloth or brush to clean the top, terminals and connections of the battery with a mixture of baking soda and water, and wipe dry with a cloth to prevent the cleaning solution from entering the inside of the battery.

Check whether the battery cables, terminals, and wires are damaged. Check whether the joints of the battery terminals and the wires are oxidized and corroded. If found, clean or replace them promptly. At the same time, check whether the battery cover is deformed or heated, and deal with it in time if any.

It is recommended to check the battery fluid level once a week. If the electrolyte level is too low, the battery plates and separators will be damaged, resulting in shortened battery life. The method of observing the electrolyte level is as follows: Open the filling cap and check the liquid level. If it is lower than the bottom platform in the filling cap, it means the liquid level is too low and the liquid should be replenished in time. If the liquid level is parallel or slightly higher than the uppermost platform in the filling cap, it is the appropriate position.

2. Add fluid to the battery regularly

Generally speaking, if the electrolyte level is 10mm higher than the plate, it means no need to add liquid. If the electrolyte level has not reached the plate, distilled or deionized water should be added. If too much distilled water is added, the electrolyte will overflow and the battery box and cables will be corroded, thus affecting the service life of the battery.

The frequency of filling depends on the purpose of the battery and the operating temperature. Generally, the longer the battery is used, the more frequently it needs to be refilled. Before adding liquid, remove the vent cap to fully charge the battery. If the battery plate electrodes are exposed to the liquid surface, add water until the plates are just submerged before charging, then recharge and add distilled water. After adding fluid, the breather cap needs to be reinstalled on the battery.

3. Charge the battery strictly according to the specifications.

The battery should be fully charged after each use. Do not discharge more than 80% of the capacity within 5 hours. It should be charged when the power is between 35% and 80% of the rated capacity. Lead-acid batteries have no memory effect, so they do not need to be fully discharged before recharging. New batteries should be recharged after 3 to 4 hours of use. The battery will emit gas (bubbling) near the end of charging, so it needs to be charged in a well-ventilated area with no open flames around. At the same time, pay special attention to never charge non-rechargeable batteries.

4. Pay attention to battery storage

Fully charge the battery before storing it, and store the battery in a cool, dry place protected from the weather. Disconnect equipment before storage to eliminate potential risk of battery leakage. The battery will gradually self-discharge during storage. Monitor the electrolyte specific gravity or battery voltage every 4 to 6 weeks. If the battery capacity is less than 70%, a supplementary charge should be performed. Stored batteries should be recharged before installation.

5. Pay attention to safety during maintenance

When inspecting and maintaining batteries, wear protective overalls, protective gloves and goggles. No maintenance tools or other metal objects should be stored on the surface of the battery. The temperature of the battery should not exceed 60°C during use. Make sure the battery is kept away from sparks, flames and metal objects. If the electrolyte is spilled on the skin or eyes, rinse with plenty of water and accept if necessary. If electrolyte is spilled on clothes, take off the clothes, rinse with water and then rinse with weak alkaline soap. When the electrolyte leaks to the outside, it can be neutralized with lime, strong carbonated soda or carbonated soda, and rinsed with plenty of water.
